You deserve support that understands the full picture and helps you move forward with clarity and confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does ADHD therapy look like? What can I expect in sessions?
ADHD therapy is tailored to the individual, but it often includes strategies for improving executive functioning, managing distractions, planning, and reducing procrastination. Sessions might explore emotional patterns such as shame, self-criticism, or low self-esteem which is common in those with undiagnosed or untreated ADHD. With youth, therapy may also involve parents and use play-based or behavioral approaches. You can expect a supportive, non-judgmental space to explore your unique brain and learn skills that actually work for you.
I’ve heard ADHD can come with anxiety, depression, or other issues. Can therapy help with those too?
Yes, many people with ADHD also experience anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem due to years of feeling “behind” or misunderstood. Therapy can address these emotional layers alongside ADHD management. Our ADHD therapists support the whole person, not just the ADHD.
How long will it take to see progress in ADHD therapy with a Registered Clinical Counsellor?
Progress depends on your goals and the challenges you’re facing. Some clients notice changes within a few sessions as they begin learning new tools or gaining clarity. Others benefit from longer-term support to address deep-rooted patterns, emotional stress, or co-occurring conditions. Your ADHD therpaist will work with you to develop a unique treatment plan that feels sustainable and supportive.
Do I need to have a diagnosis to get help for ADHD?
No, you don’t need a formal diagnosis to seek help for ADHD. Many people begin to notice challenges related to focus, organization, impulsivity, or emotional regulation, but may not have an official diagnosis. It’s completely okay to reach out for support even if you’re still uncertain about whether ADHD is the cause of your struggles. In fact, seeking help early on can be a great way to understand what’s going on, develop coping strategies, and improve your quality of life.
Does your team specialize in other treatment areas?
Yes our team does specialize in various treatment areas! Explore our Therapy Services here.
What is the cost of therapy and is it covered by insurance?
We offer in-person and online counselling services for individuals and relationships. See our rates here.
Many benefit programs cover the cost of Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCCs). Please check with your benefits provider to see if this is available to you.
We offer direct billing options to certain insurance companies. If direct billing is not an available option, we provide a detailed receipt following each session. Follow your insurers instructions for submitting the receipt through your extended health benefits plan (often this can be done online).
We invite you to contact us with any questions to explore these options.
What is the rescheduling and cancellation policy?
We kindly require 48-hours notice for cancellation or rescheduling to ensure fairness to you, your counsellor, and other clients. Our cancellation fee is the full cost of the counselling session.
Where is As You Are Counselling located?
Our clinic is located in Langley, next to the 200 Street highway exit. We are easily accessible from Surrey, Maple Ridge, Abbotsford and other surrounding cities.
We also offer the convenience of online counselling for those who cannot make it in-person.
Learn more on our Contact page.
How many sessions does it take before I start to feel better?
This really depends on the issue at hand and the context in which you are experiencing the problem. At the first session, you and your counsellor will discuss the optimal frequency and likely duration of counselling. With more complex and long standing issues, you will likely need more sessions to untangle things and build up internal stability.
Therapy is a process. That said, most of our clients experience some relief early on in the therapy process, and indicate that they are experiencing positive shifts in their lives after 4-6 sessions.
